Nancy O'Dell began her broadcast career as an anchor and reporter at WPDE-TV which was located in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Then she became an anchor and morning reporter at WCBD TV. Her articles from Charleston on how Charleston police handled DUI cases with leniency caused an investigation by State Law Enforcement Division. This investigation led to a more strict directive for state authorities. Ms. O'Dell received the Best Report of the Media Award in South Carolina by the Associated Press. In the years following her stint in Charleston O'Dell served as anchor and investigative reporter at the NBC Miami station WTVJ-TV prior to her move to Access Hollywood as a weekend anchor and a weekday reporter. O'Dell, in addition to being the lead anchor for Access Hollywood, also appears on NBC News Today as well Dateline NBC.
